The saddest thing about loving a dog is that their life span is too short compared to the human life, usually they live 12-14 years on avarage so we have to make their time in earth special and happy.
There are some lucky dogs that manage to live longer than the average just like the case of August, a golden retriever that miraculously celebrated her 20th birthday.
According to Golden Hearts this makes her the oldest golden retriever in history.
August, who also goes by the name Augie was born on 24 April 2000 and her start in life was pretty rough.
Poor animal got rehomed twice and she only found her forever home when she turned 14 after Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt of Oakland, Tennessee adopted her.
Golden retrievers live usually 10 to 12 years so Augie was almost at the end of her life but her new family loved to adopt senior dogs and give them the best time of their life on final days.
They had no idea that August would keep kicking for years to come, far exceeding anyone’s expectations.
The dog has three golden retriever siblings, the family reported to Golden Hearts that Augie has some kidney problems but she is pretty healthy otherwise and always goes out for walks.
The sweet pooch celebrated her historic 20th birthday this april, she enjoyed her party with her family and her favourite carrot cake.
Sweet Augie had no idea that she was making history by becoming the oldest golden retriever in history, she nearly doubled the lifespan of a golden retriever.
We wish you the sweetest birthday sweet girl.
